Biography
Sewing has always been part of Lyn’s life with inspiration having been passed down from the previous two generations of women in her family. Over the past decades Lyn has designed and sewed hand-embellished baby and children’s clothes for boutiques around Australia. Teaching became a focus in 1990 after Lyn won ‘Best in Show’ at Australia’s first international sewing convention, presented by Country Bumpkin.
Attention to detail and producing garments that showcase the finest sewing techniques is Lyn’s primary focus, as she draws inspiration from her large collection of antique Christening gowns, baby and children’s garments. ‘We have so much to learn from old garments of any period in time, as well as the tools and skills to make improvements in just about every aspect’. It is a pure delight to help class participants produce a garment that is their very best effort.
Lyn has enjoyed teaching for and participating in the activities of many sewing, smocking and embroidery guilds, as well as the stimulation from teaching at SAGA Conventions since 1998. In the past decade the development and challenge of finding new and exciting projects for multi-day sewing retreats has been yet one more thoroughly enjoyable aspect of sewing and teaching.
Having had articles published in highly regarded sewing publications in Australia and the USA, Lyn has also designed a range of garment patterns, published ‘Precise and Professional’ - a Workbook for Fine Machine Sewing as well as acting as author and technical editor of the ‘A-Z of Heirloom Sewing’ for Country Bumpkin.
