MetroVac Continues Family Legacy and Innovation with New President & CEO
MetroVac introduces new leadership under Ken Stern, and Andrew Cohen.
April 5, 2023 — Ken Stern has been appointed as President and CEO of MetroVac after nearly
50 years of service for the company. As a third-generation owner, Stern plans to continue the
legacy and innovation of the company. MetroVac was launched in 1939 as The Metropolitan
Vacuum Cleaner Company by Stern’s grandparents, Israel and Pearl Stern, followed by second-
generation family member Jules Stern, and third-generation David Stern.
Since joining the company in 1974, Stern has served as VP of sales and has overseen
significant innovation, development and growth across all product categories, including
spearheading the DataVac CE/IT Cleaning Systems and expanding Magic Air Inflator/Deflator
distribution. Additionally, Stern has worked to grow the Home and Industrial/Jan-San categories
and develop new products along with managing day-to-day MetroVac operations.
“I am grateful to my grandparents and father for laying the foundation of MetroVac. As a third-
generation family member, their guidance allowed me to grow this business to the successful
American manufacturer we are today,” Ken Stern said.
Also joining MetroVac leadership is Andrew Cohen, a fourth-generation family member. Cohen
started on the ground floor at MetroVac while attending Ramapo College studying Business and
Marketing. Andrew will be immediately taking on the Pet and Automotive Categories, as well as
other Management/Operational responsibilities.
“Andrew brings strong communication skills, a warm personality, business knowledge, and
overall entrepreneurial spirit to MetroVac.” Ken Stern said.
These leadership changes come after several large company milestones in the past decade. In
2013, MetroVac and its employees moved into a new 60,000-square-foot manufacturing facility
in Oakland, New Jersey, and 2019 marked the 80th anniversary of MetroVac. The company has
been preparing for their future by implementing innovative new products and adding employees
to the manufacturing and management teams.
“Welcome to the Future of MetroVac. With this new vision, I look forward to continuing to build
on our 84-year legacy,” Stern said.
