Auto Size 1-Step Buttonhole, Sewing-Only Machines (All Computer Sewing/Embroidery Machines have) |
Mechanical sewing machines can either have 1-step autosize bartack buttonholes as listed below, or up to 4, 5 and 6-step manual turn-the-dial buttonholes which are not shown in this section. Computer sewing machines all have at least 1-step bartack buttonholes, but can have up to 15 buttonhole styles, including bartack, round, keyhole, jacket, heirloom, stretch, rickrack, eyelet, etc. (Q) I have not been able to get the automatic buttonhole to work. I looked at White's web page and it does not look helpful. Do you have any resources that could help? (A) One step built-in buttonholers should first be tested on fabric under the foot, but without needle or thread, just to see if it feeds properly. Then add just the needle to see if it feeds (burred needles will not feed on satin stitches). Then add the thread to see if it sews and feeds. Generally you have to increase stitch length from .5mm to .5-1.0mm to feed properly on some fabrics. Please advise. Thanks. John Douthat, owner and tech, AllBrands.com P.S. Some machines have a balance adjustment in the form of a big "screw" sometimes on the back of the machine. This adjustment will affect the buttonhole by making one or the other side thicker (shorter stitch length) or thinner (longer stitch length.)
