I'm learning garment construction the hard way...by diving in and doing it. I'm healthily endowed on top and nothing (ABSOLUTELY NOTHING) fits me. I'm so tired of not being able to find off the rack ready to wear that fits me properly and decided to learn to sew to make my own garments. Unfortunately, I found I was having the same problems with store bought patterns-nothing fits. I knew I needed to learn how to properly fit a garment with my exact measurements and this is one of the books I bought to learn all I could about this skill. First, I read through Fit Made Easy and recognized the expertise of the author, but I just couldn't quite get a handle on the concepts and thought that this book must be one of those books that is written by maestros for virtuosos. Nevertheless, I began working on my next project and then...the lights started coming on. Without being really conscious of it, I realized I was paying more attention to how I laid the pattern pieces onto the fabric and making sure that I was honoring the grain and cross grain lines...that in itself helped like your read about! Before, I was trying to get as many pattern pieces on the fabric leaving as much left over fabric intact as possible like I remember my mother doing. Then, other little tidbits started bubbling up to the front of my mind, I'd remember some little morsel of info and lo and behold, the concepts started to crystallize. I'm slowly beginning to "see" problem areas and solutions. I can also "see" that this is going to get better with experience. I highly endorse this book, even if at first you feel the concepts are over your head. They're really not-and that's coming from a rank beginner. For me it's a "You don't know what you don't know" thing. Don't be afraid, be willing to roll up your sleeves and work through the problem areas. I'm glad I found this book and happily recommend it to you!
