Tension Not Releasing
Recently we were made aware of an intermittent issue with top tensions not releasing after a thread cut, thus causing
tension issues and bird nesting.
When an operator selects the auto thread
cutter and does not wait until the cutting
process is complete, lifts the presser foot
by hand or by FHS, there is a sporadic
chance the top tension is not releasing.
We have also seen the hour glass icon
spinning.
With machines that have an automatic
presser foot lifter the timing between cutter and lifter action is governed by the
FW, therefore we do not see such issues.
For right now we can provide this solution.
If such issues appear, please let the consumer know to slow down and let the
machine cut the thread first before the
presser foot is lifted.
Lowering and then raising the presser
foot bar should release the top tension
disks. This may take 2-3 times to release.
If the hourglass appears it maybe required to reboot the machine.

As a teacher, I have been searching for an easy way to help students insert the new magnetic hook after they have finished oiling their Bernina’s with the new Jumbo Bobbin hook. Today, I figured out the perfect solution. As a teacher, I have been searching for an easy way to help students insert the new magnetic hook after they have finished oiling their Bernina’s with the new Jumbo Bobbin hook. Today, I figured out the perfect solution. Sara See Sara's Solution On Video HERE Technically Speaking: BERNINA 535, 480, 475 Top Tension Not Releasing Recently we were made aware of an intermittent issue with top tensions not releasing after a thread cut, thus causing tension issues and bird nesting. When an operator selects the auto thread cutter and does not wait until the cutting process is complete, lifts the presser foot by hand or by FHS, there is a sporadic chance the top tension is not releasing. We have also seen the hour glass icon spinning. With machines that have an automatic presser foot lifter the timing between cutter and lifter action is governed by the FW, therefore we do not see such issues. For right now we can provide this solution. If such issues appear, please let the consumer know to slow down and let the machine cut the thread first before the presser foot is lifted. Lowering and then raising the presser foot bar should release the top tension disks. This may take 2-3 times to release. If the hourglass appears it maybe required to reboot the machine.

The 12th section of the BERNINA presser-feet online tutorial is about the darning foot no. 9. The darning foot is suitable for a series of free-motion techniques such as darning smaller holes or tears. It is also ideal for embroidery, making lace, quilting and sewing monograms. When the needle raises a vertical spring presses the fabric down (hopper mechanism) thus preventing the fabric from lifting along with the needle or flagging. Use a hoop for darning and stitch once lengthways and once crossways over the mend. Use a fine darning thread in matching color to blend in with the fabric.

How does the BSR work?

With the aid of technology, the BSR system reads (similar to a wireless mouse) the surface of the fabric under the presser foot. A sensor transfers information to the sewing machine as the material is moved. The sewing machine calculates the necessary sewing speed in order to sew consistent stitches according to the set stitch length.. A slower needle movement and motor speed is required if the material is moved slowly. A faster needle movement and motor speed is needed for faster fabric movement. In The BSR in tandem with the sewing machine, automatically adjusts to the sewer's speed for even and consistent stitching.

Ruffler # 86 is a specialist in the simple gathering and pleating of fabrics. Thanks to its variable setting options, both pleat depth and frequency of gather can be varied.

This means that Ruffler # 86 can set a pleat with every stitch, every 6th stitch, or every 12th stitch, as you choose. Stitch Perfect Circles and Arcs With Little Effort, The Circular embroidery attachment #83 is the perfect tool to embroider unusual and decorative circles or semicircles. Use with the presser foot of your choice, such as the Open embroidery foot #20, Appliqué foot #23, Embroidery foot with clear sole #39, or Reverse pattern foot #1.

Circular embroidery attachment # 83 lets you embroider unusual and decorative circles or semicircles. The attachment is screwed to the free-arm. The center of rotation can be either to the right or left of the needle, with the attaching screw lying flat enough to allow the fabric to feed smoothly over it. A diameter of between 1 and 5/16" inches can be set on the slide.

The fabric must be properly reinforced for circular embroidery, so 2-3 layers of stabilizer should be placed under your project. The fabric is put onto the pin at the center of the desired circle and held in place with a rubber cap to prevent shifting during sewing. The Circular embroidery attachment can be used in conjunction with various presser feet, and will enable you to sew circles with any decorative stitches you wish, and even arrange lettering in a circle.

As well as for marking seam lines, Tailor tack foot # 7 can be used for sewing elegant embellishments, imitation hemstitch (fagotting), fringe, and 3D effects.
When sewing together two pieces of fabric with Tailor tack foot # 7 the thread tension is loosened slightly, so that the thread can pass easily over the ridge in the center of the foot. The zigzag stitch used forms loose loops which then slide off to the back thanks to the special V-shaped opening on the foot.

Note: We used the Bernina #72 Foot with our Sew Steady Westalee Low Shank Templates at Bernina University last year and it worked great. You have to turn off the pivot action on the Bernina machine, and you have to adjust the foot to the lowest position. Sew Steady

Jessica at Dream World advised, "One thing I like to share with customers is the Bernina #72 Foot can work with any of our Westalee Design Templates. We used our Low Shank Templates (3mm) with this Foot at Bernina University last year, and they worked quite well. The use of our Low Shank Templates does require the customer turn off the pivot action on their Bernina machine, and adjust the Foot to its lowest position.
We certainly understand many of our customers using Bernina’s #72 Foot have a preference of Template thickness, and we do welcome this when a customer expresses a preference. We see a lot of our High Shank Templates (4.5mm) used with Bernina’s Foot, and while we see some of our Long Arm Templates (6mm) used with the Bernina Foot it may not provide the best visibility of the needle."

This foot allows you to sew along acrylic quilting templates (rulers) that are 1/4 inch thick to create decorative quilting designs such as lines, feathers, circles etc. The height of the foot’s sole makes it possible to quilt along all the edges of these rulers. The #72 foot is for BERNINA domestic machines new style. Old style BERNINA machines need to use the BERNINA #77 Adaptor Shank (old style) with a Westalee Low Shank Ruler Foot.

With this technique, the feed dog is lowered and the fabric with the acrylic ruler is guided manually with the base of the foot resting against the edge of the ruler. Due to the adjustment dial, the height of the foot can be adjusted to match the fabric thickness individually so that the fabric can be moved smoothly without getting stuck. Moreover, the additional option provided by the adjustable foot height extends the scope of applications for BERNINA sewing machines without the function ‘automatic presser foot pressure/presser foot height.’

7-Groove pintuck foot # 32 is a specialist for sewing especially fine pintucks on light to medium weight fabrics using a double needle. The typical pintuck shape is produced by the bobbin thread, which pulls together the two lines of stitching as you sew.
