Specifications

Using the Adjustable Ruler Foot for quilting
- Lower the feed dog.
- Attach the slide-on table.
- Attach the presser foot.
- Select Straight stitch.
- If possible, set "Needle stop down".
- Place the fabric beneath the presser foot.
- Lower the presser foot.
- Adjust the height of the presser foot. To do this, turn the adjusting wheel of the presser foot until the fabric can be moved back and forth under the presser foot sole without difficulty. (Fig. 1)
- Thread the needle.
- Bring the bobbin thread up to the right side of the fabric. Hold the upper thread and the bobbin thread in place together.
- Start quilting with ruler (Fig. 2) or free-motion quilting (Fig. 3). Move the fabric with your hands according to the sewing speed in order to achieve an even stitch length.
Tips
- If skipped stitches occur, reduce the presser foot height or the sewing speed.
- For an optimal sewing result, use the straight stitch plate.
- For an optimal stitch formation, use the same thread quality and color as top and bobbin thread.

We certainly understand many of our customers using Bernina’s #72 Foot have a preference of Template thickness, and we do welcome this when a customer expresses a preference. We see a lot of our High Shank Templates (4.5mm) used with Bernina’s Foot, and while we see some of our Long Arm Templates (6mm) used with the Bernina Foot it may not provide the best visibility of the needle."

This foot allows you to sew along acrylic quilting templates (rulers) that are 1/4 inch thick to create decorative quilting designs such as lines, feathers, circles etc. The height of the foot’s sole makes it possible to quilt along all the edges of these rulers. The #72 foot is for BERNINA domestic machines new style. Old style BERNINA machines need to use the BERNINA #77 Adaptor Shank (old style) with a Westalee Low Shank Ruler Foot.With this technique, the feed dog is lowered and the fabric with the acrylic ruler is guided manually with the base of the foot resting against the edge of the ruler. Due to the adjustment dial, the height of the foot can be adjusted to match the fabric thickness individually so that the fabric can be moved smoothly without getting stuck. Moreover, the additional option provided by the adjustable foot height extends the scope of applications for BERNINA sewing machines without the function ‘automatic presser foot pressure/presser foot height.’

The BERNINA ruler foot # 72 was specifically made for ruler work on BERNINA sewing machines.
In this video we show you step by step how to prepare your BERNINA machine and how to use the ruler foot with to create attractive lines and curves – with unparalleled precision.
The high-sided edge allows precise quilting around all edges of the template. The adjustment dials wheel allows the height of the presser foot to be customised to the thickness of the quilt. This means that the ruler foot can also be used with BERNINA sewing machines which do not offer the option for adjusting presser foot height. A patented invention exclusively from BERNINA!
Markings on the presser foot help to produce accurate seams. The notch at the front of the ruler foot allows you to keep an eye on your work at all times. The curved base of the foot glides smoothly over the fabric and allows the fabric to pass through evenly – for sewing and quilting results of the highest standard.

The BSR regulates perfect, equal-length straight and zigzag stitches at variable sewing speeds during free-motion quilting. BSR is optional for models B 475 QE and B 480 and is not available on the B 435.

Tension Not Releasing
Recently we were made aware of an intermittent issue with top tensions not releasing after a thread cut, thus causing
tension issues and bird nesting.
When an operator selects the auto thread
cutter and does not wait until the cutting
process is complete, lifts the presser foot
by hand or by FHS, there is a sporadic
chance the top tension is not releasing.
We have also seen the hour glass icon
spinning.
With machines that have an automatic
presser foot lifter the timing between cutter and lifter action is governed by the
FW, therefore we do not see such issues.
For right now we can provide this solution.
If such issues appear, please let the consumer know to slow down and let the
machine cut the thread first before the
presser foot is lifted.
Lowering and then raising the presser
foot bar should release the top tension
disks. This may take 2-3 times to release.
If the hourglass appears it maybe required to reboot the machine.

Extended Freearm for Big Projects.
The BERNINA 7 Series includes a meticulously engineered extended free arm with
10 inches (254mm) of working space to the right of the needle. Not only does the
B 720 provide plenty of room for large sewing projects, with its 5.5mm stitch width,
it’s also ideally suited for small sewing jobs such as inserting zippers. And as your
ambitions grow, the B720 can be further upgraded with a wealth of optional
accessories. For instance, add the BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BSR), which guarantees
consistent stitches when free-motion sewing and quilting no matter how quickly you
move the fabric.
Total Stitch Control
All BERNINA 7 Series models provide an exclusive level of stitch control. Whether you
are altering stitch length, stitch width or needle position, the machine will remember
the details for you. Your personal settings can be saved and retrieved and the USB
interface allows you to import and export stitches and stitch patterns or combinations.

Sew with More Ease
The B720 performs many tasks all by itself. The presser foot lowers automatically at the
beginning of a seam. Threading is semi-automatic, and the thread is automatically cut
when you reach the end of a seam, or when you change colour whilst embroidering
(embroidery module optional). The standard package also features a handy extension
table that makes working on all your sewing projects an absolute breeze.
BERNINA Adaptive Thread Tension
The BERNINA Adaptive Thread Tension, a BERNINA innovation,
provides ideal thread tension while sewing to achieve perfect stitch
quality on both sides of the fabric. Once the tension is set according
to the thread and fabric used, BERNINA Adaptive Thread Tension
will constantly check the thread tension, adjusting it automatically
if needed. The result is the finest stitching without pressing a button.
Embroider beautifully and with ease
The B720 can also embroider; simply switch to embroidery
mode directly via the touchscreen. Embroidery mode lets you
easily position, mirror, rotate and resize motifs. The finished
design can be saved directly on the machine or on a USB stick.
What’s more, further designs can be imported to the machine via
the USB port. The Check function lets you position the design
precisely before embroidering. The embroidery module is available
as an optional accessory for the B720.
Specially designed for the BERNINA 7 Series, the new Maxi Hoop
holds embroidery designs with a maximum area of 400 × 210 mm.

Sara See Sara's Solution On Video HERE Technically Speaking: BERNINA 535, 480, 475 Top Tension Not Releasing Recently we were made aware of an intermittent issue with top tensions not releasing after a thread cut, thus causing tension issues and bird nesting. When an operator selects the auto thread cutter and does not wait until the cutting process is complete, lifts the presser foot by hand or by FHS, there is a sporadic chance the top tension is not releasing. We have also seen the hour glass icon spinning.
